چکیده

Effect of electron-nuclear spin interactions for electron-spin qubits localized in InGaAs self-assembled quantum dots" (2005). The effect of electron-nuclear spin interactions on qubit operations is investigated for a qubit represented by the spin of an electron localized in an InGaAs self-assembled quantum dot. The localized electron wave function is evaluated within the atomistic tight-binding model. The electron Zeeman splitting induced by the electron-nuclear spin interaction is estimated in the presence of an inhomogeneous environment characterized by a random nuclear spin configuration, by the dot-size distribution, alloy disorder, and interface disorder. Due to these inhomogeneities, the electron Zeeman splitting varies from one qubit to another by the order of 10 −6 , 10 −6 , 10 −7 , and 10 −9 eV, respectively. Such fluctuations cause errors in exchange operations due to the inequality of the Zeeman splitting between two qubits. However, the error can be made lower than the quantum error threshold if an exchange energy larger than 10 −4 eV is used for the operation. This result shows that the electron-nuclear spin interaction does not hinder quantum-dot based quantum computer architectures from being scalable even in the presence of inhomogeneous environments.

Suppression of nuclear spin bath fluctuations in self-assembled quantum dots induced by inhomogeneous strain

Interaction with nuclear spins leads to decoherence and information loss in solid-state electron-spin qubits. One particular, ineradicable source of electron decoherence arises from decoherence of the nuclear spin bath, driven by nuclear-nuclear dipolar interactions. Owing to its many-body nature nuclear decoherence is difficult to predict, especially for an important class of strained nanostru...

Magnetically tunable singlet-triplet spin qubit in a four-electron InGaAs coupled quantum dot

A pair of self-assembled InGaAs quantum dots filled with two electrons can act as a singlet-triplet spin qubit that is robust against nuclear spin fluctuations as well as charge noise. This results in a T2* coherence time two orders of magnitude longer than that of a single electron, provided the qubit is operated at a particular "sweet spot" in gate voltage. However, at this fixed operating po...

Decoherence and fluctuation dynamics of the quantum dot nuclear spin bath probed by nuclear magnetic resonance

Dynamics of nuclear spin decoherence and nuclear spin flip-flops in self-assembled InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots are studied experimentally using optically detected nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Nuclear spin-echo decay times are found to be in the range 1-4 ms. This is a factor of ~3 longer than in strain-free GaAs/AlGaAs structures and is shown to result from strain-induced quadrupolar effects ...

Quadrupolar and anisotropy effects on dephasing in two-electron spin qubits in GaAs.

Understanding the decoherence of electron spins in semiconductors due to their interaction with nuclear spins is of fundamental interest as they realize the central spin model and of practical importance for using them as qubits. Interesting effects arise from the quadrupolar interaction of nuclear spins with electric field gradients, which have been shown to suppress diffusive nuclear spin dyn...
